My next adventure underwater is coming closer

Everyone who knows me also knows my sense for challenging adventures and my interest for tec diving. In 2016 I organised the event “Dive 48” when my team of divers dove in groups of two for 48 hours in total and collected data of the reef at Maaya Thila – just before the El Niño arrived in Maldives and bleached many corals and anemone. This challenge made us dive at times when divers usually do not jump in the water and besides counting the different species at the dive site and collecting various data, we could identify the activity times of the marine life. After this successful event, the next one is already being planned.

In February 2022 I will dive for 50 consecutive hours. Next year the Maldivian government is celebrating 50 years of tourism and diving is obviously a big part of the tourism in the country and we want to celebrate it with this dive. But there is a lot more behind this plan. As a Maldivian I deeply care for where I come from. Maldives is not only a destination for thousands of tourists each year but first and foremost it is a home to the locals and the marine life. This needs to be taken well care of and protected for our future generations. But both, the land and underwater world, have been under immense pressure for several reasons. With this event I want to raise awareness for climate change and environment pollution.

The sea, the great unifier, is man’s only hope. Now, as never before, the old phrase has a literal meaning: we are all in the same boat.
– Jacques Cousteau

The whole dive will be open for everyone around the globe. Any interested dive centre can send their divers to join me and send a message to the world. But no matter where you are, you can join me by diving at your local dive site or follow me on social media such as Youtube or Instagram as the whole dive will be broadcasted live.

Stay tuned and wait for more news!
